Ali's New Love

Thursday, December 31, 2009

Lately over the past few months, I have discovered a new love of mine...
Cake Decorating!

I have had some opportunities to play around with fondant and design some cakes for my dear friends and their birthdays. Boy have I had so many ideas running through my head I just want to keep making cakes and trying new things with them! Someday maybe I will take a cake decorating class to get some more tips. But as for now, I think it will just be my form of art that I will enjoy as a hobby. So if any of you need a cake....LET ME KNOW!! I would love to assist you with any kind of cake:)

Here are the cakes I have made over the past months.

My first cake was this cake (above) was for a friend of mine at work....I forgot to take a picture of the cake before we dove into it, but at least you can get the idea...It was delicious! It was a white cake filled with real strawberries and white frosting. And of course my first experience with fondant.

My second cake was this cake for my best friend Whitney and our other friend Amy, they had the same birthday! This one I covered with white fondant instead of regular frosting, and also had some fun decorating and experiencing the difficulties of piping the letters. This was a chocolate cake with some white frosting filling - also so good and moist!

As for my third cake...oh its my FAVORITE! My good friend from work Ashley has a daughter that was turning 1 and they call her "Tinks"; they were having a fairy/Tinkerbell party. So I jumped all over this one and had so much fun making it! Of course I didn't make the fairies, but this was definatley a girlie cake. The actual cake was pink (strawberry) with white frosting. I covered it with white fondant but spray painted food coloring for the grass and pond. I used fondant for the flowers as well and sprinkled edible glitter all over. Getting the fairies to stay was a real trick, especially the ones on the sides. But since they all came on stands I took the three of the fairies and super glued sewing pins on the back and stuck em in and Ta DA they stayed!

Well That's all of my cakes for now, next I wanna try to make a different shaped cake, but who knows when that will be. As for now...I'm off to make a New Year's cake for our little shin dig tonight. Until next time..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Monday, December 7, 2009

Its been quite some time that I have posted anything. blog slacker, I admit it! This is going to be a quick one, but this past weekend my mom came to visit! She had so much fun decorating our whole condo, including the bathroom, yes the bathroom. She's so good and it was so fun to have her here to play! Eventhough I worked most of the day. Gotta pay the bills! Anyways, besides the lovely looking condo, Steven and I picked out our first Christmas tree together! it was so much fun, BUT freezing!! I dont know how many places we went to. We got pretty desperate. This little stand on the side of the road was selling locally cut trees for 14.95, they all were pretty bare and weird looking except this one tree, that stood on the sidewalk to bring people in. The guy who owned it said its a little family business they do to have a Christmas each year for their family. Poor guy, he was missing about 4 teeth in the front! We didn't have any cash and told him we would look around some more and might come back. It was getting late, I was freezing, tired and just wanted to get a good looking tree. Steven then mentioned that his buddy told him about a grocery store selling trees for $25. We thought hey, we'll go check it out, if its lame we will just call it a night and go see a movie or something. To our surprise we got a tree! From a grocery store. He's a chubby little guy and is perfect for our place! It smells so good and we just love having a fresh tree in our home. We finally finished decorating the tree last night. So here it is! {I'll post more pictures of the condo later:)}

Happy Holidays!

Fall is here!

Monday, November 9, 2009

Autumn, all the leaves changing colors; bright yellow, orange and red...I just love it! Although I forget from time to time how Steven is colorblind....I feel so bad when I mention how pretty the leaves are that are changing color, or if I ask him what color looks better, of course he will say anything looks good on me..(awww)

This past Saturday Steven took his day off, which never usually happens. So we decided to have an adventure and go for a hike or walk somewhere cool. We went to Bridal Veil Falls, It was pretty, but a bit disappointing all the leaves where dead except for a few trees. However, the waterfall was quite the sight :)

Us showing the leaves some tlc
"Now take one like this uhhaha" - Steven C.
At the top of the hike, we tried going higher, but got stuck....

Some new things in the Crosby life, we got TV! Yes, now I can be up to date on all the shows, my dancing with the stars, so you think you can dance, and of course a few others :) As nice as it has been, it was nice not having TV around, I got alot more accomplished it feels like. Now I'm not saying I have gotten lazy....because I definitely haven't! Since we realized we can go to my work where we have access to an indoor basketball court and gym for FREE, we canceled our membership at 24 hr fitness. After awhile, I got a little bored with the same workouts I was doing. I wasn't seeing the results I wanted so I started going to this class called Pro-fit through Rage fitness. Whitney got me into, and I'm loving it! Its every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 5:30 AM, yes its early! But we are lifting weights focusing on different areas on the body, and then we do cardio the other days, except I do cardio on my own, running :) Anywho, I think that's all for now. The last thing I would like to say is I'M SO EXCITED TO GO HOME FOR THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D I miss my family :)

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Monday, October 26, 2009

Recently I signed up for an Art Class through UVU Community Ed Program. My friend Whitney, who encouraged me to do the class, was already registered and thought it would be fun to take together so I said why not?! We were both ecstatic when the day came of our first class that we could hardly stop talking about it. Later on in the evening I go to Whit's house and we head to class which is in Saratoga Springs, West Lake High School. It was a little bit further than we expected. BUT the fun part was getting there. Whitney got directions which led us somewhere in Lehi, So...We ended up at a fire station and though"hey they've ought to know where this school is!". We head up the drive way and meet up with quite a group of firefighters, explain where we are trying to go and how we are lost, and the next thing we know they bring us inside where it smells like dinner. Soon enough we find ourselves surrounded by men feeding off each other with these random comments like " oh, you're way far from there, you might as well just turn around and go home"... "Or you can stay and finish making dinner for us". They finally stop joking around and show us the map and how to get to the school; they even drew out this mini map on this little sticki note!!

{picture coming soon}

We're off again. Finally reaching this MASSIVE school that's almost exactly like the high school musical school except blue instead of red. So, once we drive around, yes the ENTIRE school looking for the portable(b/c that's what it said online) we decide maybe it's inside. Once inside the main building we stood there...looked at each other and looked around again in awe wondering how the heck we were goin to find this classroom. To my right one of the janitors was driving this machine cleaning the floor. He had just turned around to start driving away from me and I thought " he HAS to know where it is!" so...I start jogging/running after him to ask him where room D260 is..and he starts speeding up! ( mind you, Whit is still by the entrance watching me chase down this guy and getting a kick out of it) Well...alot of funny things happen as we look for this class one being....We hear a class, hoping it was ours, so we sneak by peeking our heads in trying to be quiet, and my phone goes off, with the power rangers message alert, not sure if you all know what that sound is, but it had us both busting up laughing! Any who, time goes on and we finally find room D260 at about 7:30 pm (class starts at 7) and....it was pitch black! FAIL. All that hard work for nothing. BUT come to find out the teacher thought the class was cancelled and we are the only two that signed up, so we will have make up class, but boy was that a good time!

After that unfortunate event, the Saturday after 10/24/09 was the WICKED CROSBY Halloween party!....except to my disappointment, only one couple showed up. Our dedicated, sweet, loving friends The Smiths dressed up as the Samoan and a Prego Mouse :) We had fun for a little while eating some delicious food and playing Mad Gab, then it got a little old and it ended at about 9ish. After along day of cleaning and setting up/decorating the place, I was tired, but the night was still young so Steven and I went to Starbucks and got some delicious Carmel Apple Cider and Hot Chocolate. For all of you that missed out, thinking the BYU game was going to be awesome, **cough cough** terrible game, Here is a few pictures of get up :) (camera is broken currently and so camera phone had to do)
The Food Tables

Chocolate Covered Rice Krispy Treats with creepy Eyes / Reese's Pieces Cookies

At least Steven enjoyed the Chips and Queso! :)

He thinks he's SO funny....

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

So the other day after we get home from the gym, I weigh myself and was proud to see I had lost about 5 pounds from the last time I weighed myself! I couldn't really believe it so I didn't mention anything to Steven or get too excited about and forgot about it. Couple days later I weighed myself again, and it was the weight it showed me before, that I had lost 5 pounds! I quickly go to the kitchen, where Steven was of course, to tell him the good news. Little did I know that this little conversation would be so funny.

Me: Hey guess what, I lost like 5 pounds!
Steven: Really? That's like a big deal!
Me: yeah.....but I'm trying to figure out where I lost that weight.....
Steven: well, did you check the room?
Me: (didnt realize he was making a joke out of it, because I'm slow) hah you're funny!
Steven: haha I thought so, you have to tell Whitney at work, that was a good one!

So I tell Whitney at work, one of my best friends, and as I tell the end, what he said, our other friend Ashley starts bustin up laughing. And let me tell you she was laughing so hard she starting crying, even when it was told a second time around. Then today it came up again and she tried to say it again and couldn't because she was laughing too hard! Here is a picture of how hard she was laughing....she's gonna kill me if she sees this on here.. love ya ashley! :)

We always have a good time like this at work! This^^^ happens pretty much everyday :)

Race Numero Uno!

Saturday, October 17, 2009

My first race of the year was the Helpcare 5k: Helping those without Healthcare.
It was through the Riverwoods in Provo along the river with all the beautiful fall trees lined up on each side. Absolutely gorgeous! I did pretty well, not as well as I could have done probably, apparently it takes me awhile to get used to running outside in Utah versus California or on a treadmill. Oh, well it was a fun experience :) AND I won a free meal to Rumbi Island Grill!! Now my next task is to keep training for the 10k I'm supposed to be running on Thanksgiving day with my Papi!!

and this is me right before I left for the race....not the best pic :)

The BoOgEr Incident

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

So today has been typical day in the Crosby residence. It was date night so, we went out to California Pizza Kitchen where we first went the first night we met on our first date :) precious, I know. Anways, the night carries on after dinner to different stores looking for some comfy slippers since its getting so cold out! As our long journey for these slippers end, we head back home. While we are in the car at a stop light, we were both diggin' for gold and caught eachother (Steven goin at it tryin to get those suckers out of his nose). Once I noticed what was goin' on I looked at him and this how the BoOgEr incident went. (a little role play for ya)

Steven: Did you get yours?
Ali: mmm, no
Steven: oh, well...i got mine
Ali: I've been having a lot of boogers lately.......[awkward silence]
Steven: Its good you have a lot of boogers, It means you're not sick!
Ali:[awkward look]
Steven: It's TRUE!!

And there ya go folks. The BoOgEr Incident. :D

Becoming Mrs. Crosby

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Just when I thought life couldn't get any better, Steven Daniel Crosby comes along and sweeps me off my feet! August 15, 2009 has to be the best day of my life. I got to marry the man of my dreams AT, get this, my dream temple! Growing up in primary they teach you about the LDS temples that have been built all over the world and from the day I saw that temple in San Diego, CA, I said " I want to get married in that temple." It was just absolutely perfect in every possible way. The reception the following week was more than I ever imagined it to be! (Then again, it is my mom, who is amazing at this kind of stuff, so I should have known.) But, I LOVED everything about it and thank everyone who was involved with the big party! I will have more pictures of everything soon, If you haven't already seen some on facebook.

Steven is amazing and I am SO lucky to have him as my husband. :) We love being married and have a blast pretty much every day. If you know us, we never have a dull moment. We do crazy and random things at some of the weirdest times and I love it! He always knows how to put a smile on my face, whether it be by having fresh flowers on the table when I come home from work, or just simply calling me to the room he's in to tell me he loves me.

Our daily schedule usually is us waking up, steven making me breakfast while I get ready for work, then when we are both finally home we go to the gym and then have dinner and end with either a game or movie. We've kind of become addicted to UNO Extreme and Scrabble....dont know why, but we always end up either laughing so hard it feels like an ab work out and we're crying, or one of us frustrated because we can't win. haha, anyways, thats enough of this post, I'll try to get some pictures of the condo up soon, gotta find the charger to my camera first :) stay tuned!
